A new approach to housing Scotland’s growing energy workforce could help unlock long-term homes for communities while supporting the country’s journey to net zero.
As major energy infrastructure projects accelerate across Scotland, thousands of construction workers are required in areas where housing supply is already constrained and accommodation costs are rising. This growing challenge is prompting fresh thinking across the housing, planning and energy sectors, and is being led by SFT.
SFT, together with SSEN Transmission hosted a webinar to explore how accommodation needs can be shaped to deliver permanent housing, creating a lasting legacy for local communities while delivering value and additionality for developers and housing providers.
To further promote the need for action to address the worker housing challenge, SFT associate director Mary Jarvie wrote a thought-led article on the housing delivery implications of the long-term infrastructure pipeline for Scotland.
